So this new band, Suckers, wants to release an album with a reworked version of their lead singer’s song?!?!?!?!
If only I could actually be mad. No! In fact, I really like the music that Suckers and their lead singer, Quinn Walker, put out. I, being the superficial music fan that I am, feel that I must choose between one or the other version though…
At the moment I’d choose the solo version, but this is just because it has had more time to sit with me. I like the obvious fact that the original was done solo, as opposed to with a full band. The full band seems to take away from how personal this song might have been to the author. I feel that the original version of this song comes off as a bedroom recording, and that only adds to the emotion, no matter how silly the song may get.
But I’ll let you be the judge… Here’s a link to the full band version, thanks to P4k (you might have to do a little clicking around, but it’s worth it): http://pitchfork.com/news/36934-hear-suckers-save-your-love-for-me/
You can find the original, from the double album “Laughters an Asshole/Lion Land,” for the time being, above.
